Zuluk

A high village on Sikkim’s Old Silk Route, known for its winding mountain road

A village on the Old Silk Route

Zuluk (Dzuluk) is a small settlement in East Sikkim on the historic Silk Route that once linked the plains with the Tibetan plateau. It sits at about 2,900 metres. The road below the village folds into dozens of hairpin bends, best seen from Thambi Viewpoint on a clear morning. Visitors need an inner-line permit for this stretch.

Nights are spent in simple lodges. Sunrise over the eastern ridges and, in winter, snow on the loops are the main draws. Nearby Nathang Valley is a high, open pasture often combined with Zuluk. The route is different from the Tsomgo–Nathula road and is usually travelled between October and May.
